Mazda Develops New Body Color, “Zinc Green Metallic”
—A modern green shade that combines toughness and refinement, to be introduced sequentially starting with the MX-5—
HIROSHIMA, Japan - Mazda Motor Corporation has developed a new body color, Zinc Green Metallic. Mazda MX-5 (Soft-top)*1 and Mazda MX-5 RF (Retractable hardtop) will be the first model*2 to feature this new color—a modern green that combines toughness and refinement, creating a strong presence while harmonizing seamlessly with both natural landscapes and urban settings.
Mazda has offered approximately eighty shades of green*3 to date, with various hues adopted across successive generations of the MX‑5, earning strong support from customers. In response to this demand, a green color will be introduced to the fourth-generation MX‑5 for the first time.
Zinc Green Metallic takes its inspiration from the color and texture of zinc chromate primer, an undercoat used to enhance the durability of industrial products. It translates the rational functional beauty into a sense of toughness expressed through color and texture.
In low-light conditions, its solid-like texture creates a tight, powerful impression, while in bright light, the delicate metallic sheen accentuates the body’s sculptural beauty, resulting in a sophisticated and modern overall appearance. To achieve this effect, the color formulation incorporates bluish metallic flakes, with optimized particle size and alignment to deliver a cool, refined tone.
Zinc Green Metallic reveals a rich variety of expressions depending on the shifting light and time of day, making it a color that complements a wide range of scenes. It enriches the moments spent with the car, adding a deeper sense of enjoyment to everyday life.
