Mazda Production and Sales Results for December 2009 and for January through December 2009 (Flash Report)

Mazda Motor Corporation’s production and sales results for December 2009 and for January through December 2009 are summarized below.

I. Production

1. Domestic Production
(1) December 2009
Mazda’s total domestic production volume in December 2009 increased for the first time in 14 months, growing 28.6% compared to December 2008 due to increased production of passenger vehicles.

Mazda2 (Demio):	12,865 units	(up 9.8% year-on-year)

Mazda’s domestic production volume of passenger and commercial vehicles in the period from January through December 2009 decreased 33.5% compared to the same period in 2008.

Mazda3 (Axela):	325,002 units	(down 18.1% year-on-year)
Mazda2 (Demio):	145,384 units	(down 29.7% year-on-year)

2. Overseas Production
(1) December 2009
Posting a year-on-year increase for the seventh consecutive month, Mazda’s overseas production volume in December 2009 improved 100.0% on December 2008, reflecting healthy production of passenger vehicles.

Despite healthy production of passenger vehicles, Mazda’s total overseas production volume in the period from January through December 2009 decreased 1.5% compared to the same period in 2008, due to decreased production of commercial vehicles.

Mazda’s total domestic sales volume in December 2009 increased for the third consecutive month, growing 5.1% compared to December 2008 due to healthy sales of passenger vehicles.
Mazda’s registered vehicle market share was 3.8% (down 0.9 points year-on-year), with a 2.5% share of the micro-mini segment (down 0.2 points year-on-year) and a 3.4% total market share (down 0.5 points year-on-year).

Mazda3 (Axela):	1,876 units	(up 116.1% year-on-year)

Mazda’s domestic sales volume of passenger and commercial vehicles in the period from January through December 2009 decreased 16.5% compared to the same period in 2008.
Mazda’s registered vehicle market share was 5.3% (down 0.5 points year-on-year), with a 2.9% share of the micro-mini segment (down 0.2 points year-on-year) and a 4.4% total market share (down 0.4 points year-on-year).
