Freshened Mazda Premacy Now on Sale in Japan
- New models offer improved ride and performance with top class environmental features -
HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation today announced enhancements to the sporty and stylish Mazda Premacy range in Japan. The restyled models for Mazda’s performance compact minivan are available nationwide from today at all Mazda, Mazda Anfini and Mazda Autozam dealers. The Premacy is known as the Mazda5 overseas and the target sales volume is 1,800 units a month.
These latest enhancements to the Premacy were made to further evolve its “Communicative and Dynamic” product concept. An electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission is mounted in all front-wheel-drive (FWD) grades, and the adoption of sequential valve timing (S-VT) has been expanded to all model grades. These changes have resulted in greater power as well as improved fuel efficiency and top class emissions. Mazda has also upgraded the suspension to achieve a more stable ride and greater comfort.
New body parts, such as the bold front end, give the exterior design of the freshened Premacy range a more sporty and stylish look. The interior features a redesigned instrument panel and modified layout to heighten the refined image. Seven new body colors, including Golden Sand Metallic, have been added to bring the total available choice of vivid tints to eleven.
Manufacturer’s suggested retail prices for the Premacy vary between 1,768,000 to 2,355,000 yen (including consumption tax).
Main features of the enhanced Mazda Premacy The front design has been changed to create a smooth, clean line that connects the hood to the bumper, and newly designed headlights emphasize the Premacy’s refined expression. The quality of the premium model grades has been heightened through LED indicator lights embedded in the door mirrors, and LED rear combination lights.
Interior The instrument panel design and layout have been changed, and blacked out dials with highly visible white illumination have been added to raise quality and render a more dynamic interior design. The interior colors and seat fabric have been changed for different model grades, creating a more stylish and individual expression.
Dynamics The use of sequential valve timing (S-VT) has been expanded to improve the performance of the well-established 2.0-liter and 2.3-liter MZR engines. The front-wheel-drive (FWD) models have also been equipped with an electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission. These upgrades provide reassuring torque and linear acceleration to make daily driving more satisfying.
Environmental performance Fuel economy has been improved by adopting S-VT in addition to an electronic throttle and electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission. All FWD models with the 2.0-liter MZR engine meet Japan’s 2010 fuel economy standards plus 10%, making them eligible for Japan’s Green Tax exemptions. Both the FWD and four-wheel-drive (4WD) model grades now qualify as Super-Ultra-Low Emission Vehicles (SU-LEV), achieving exhaust emissions that are 75 percent or lower than the levels required by the Japanese government’s 2005 exhaust emissions regulations.
Other features Enhanced noise reduction in the passenger cabin, together with Mazda’s highly acclaimed ‘six-plus-one’ flexible seating concept, has resulted in greater comfort levels. Additionally, safety improvements, such as making Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) available as an option on a larger range of models, has allowed the Premacy to achieve the highest possible, six-star rating for collision safety from the Japanese New Car Assessment Program (J-NCAP). Cabin equipment includes an HDD navigation system that is compatible with Mazda G-BOOK ALPHA telematics technology; an improved parking assist system with an additional CCD camera embedded in the passenger side door mirror; and a Bluetooth® handsfree system and auxiliary input AUX terminal for external devices, all as factory installed options.
Special-needs vehicles Mazda’s special Premacy Lift-up Passenger Seat Model has also benefited from the enhancements, and is available from today at all Mazda, Mazda Anfini and Mazda Autozam dealers throughout Japan.
