Production and Sales Results

Mazda’s domestic production in December 2006 was the best December result since 1992 and exports were at their highest level since 1991 for the month of December. In December 2006, Mazda achieved its highest ever overseas production volume of any December to date.
For the period January through December 2006, domestic production volume was at its highest level since 1994 and exports were their highest volumes since 1992.Overseas production reached an all-time record for a calendar year.

For 14 consecutive months since November 2005, domestic production volumes exceeded those of the same month in the previous year, up 13.6% over December 2005. This increase was mainly due to the added production of Mazda CX-7 and CX-9 models and increased production of the Mazda3 and Mazda5.

January through December 2006
For the fifth consecutive year since 2002, the domestic production volume for the period between January and December exceeded that of the previous year, up 11.7% over 2005. This is a reflection of the launch of the CX-7 and a rise in production of the Mazda5 and Mazda3 models. Production at the Hofu plant marked an all-time record of 494,650 units, up 1.7% over the 2005 result.

The domestic sales volume was below the figure from the same month last year, down 9.9% over December 2005. Sales volumes of commercial vehicles, the Mazda2 and the Mazda6 were lower than the same month last year, but sales of micro-minis and the Mazda CX-7 were brisk. Mazda’s registered vehicle market share was 4.5%, down 0.6 points over December 2005, with a 2.5% market share of the micro-mini segment (up 0.2 points), and a 3.8% total market share, down 0.4 points over the same month last year.

January through December 2006
The domestic sales volume for the period from January to December 2006 was below the figure for the same period in 2005, down 6.4%. Sales volumes of the Mazda2 and Mazda6 were shy of the figure from the previous year, but sales of the MPV and micro-minis were brisk. Mazda’s registered vehicle market share was 5.8%, down 0.2 points from last year, with a 2.7% market share of the micro-mini segment (unchanged from last year) and a 4.7% total market share, down 0.2 points year-on-year.

III. Exports

Exports have exceeded the figures from the same month of the previous year for 17 consecutive months since August 2005, with an increase of 8.6% over December 2005. This was attributable to an increase in export volumes, led by the Mazda CX-7 and CX-9. On a market basis, exports bound for North America were especially buoyant, reaching 28,397 units, up 46.3% year-on-year.

January through December 2006
For the sixth consecutive year since 2001, January through December export figures have exceeded those of the previous year, up 18.3% year-on-year. This result is attributable to the increased export volumes of the Mazda CX-7 and Mazda5. On a market basis, exports bound for North America (286,202 units, up 41.7% year-on-year) and Europe (269,029 units, up 17.0% year-on-year) were particularly healthy.

The overseas production volume increased for the first time in three months since September 2006, up 16.0% year-on-year, making December 2006 the best December overseas production result to date. This reflects increased production of the Mazda3 and BT-50 pickup truck series. On a country basis, production of Mazda vehicles in China reached 15,280 units, up 41.0% over December 2005, mainly due to the increased Mazda3 production.

January through December 2006
For the first time since 2004, the overseas production volume exceeded that of the same period in the previous year, up 13.4% for January through December 2006. This result makes 2006 the most successful calendar year ever for overseas production, mainly reflecting the rise in production of the Familia/323 and BT-50 pickup truck. On a country basis, production in China grew to 145,198 units, up 34.6% over the previous year due to brisk demand for the Familia/323 and Mazda6.
