Mazda Production and Sales Results for January 2006
Production and Sales Results
In January 2006, Mazda's domestic production, domestic sales, exports, and overseas production results exceeded the previous year's figures due to steady demand for its new generation models.
I. Domestic Production
For the third consecutive month since November 2005, domestic production volume exceeded that of the same month last year (+34.6% year-on-year). The greatly improved results reflect the increased production volumes of new generation models such as the Mazda5, MX-5, and MPV in addition to the negative impact of the Ujina No. 1 plant fire in 2004 on the figures for January 2005.
II. Domestic Sales
Domestic sales increased for the first time in three months since October 2005, up 2.4% year-on-year. For passenger cars, lower sales of the Demio/Mazda2 were offset by contributions from Mazda5 and MX-5 sales, as well as by significant demand for Mazda's commercial vehicles, resulting in last year's total figure being exceeded. Mazda's registered vehicle market share was 6.9% (up +0.2 points compared to January 2005), with a 3.8% share (+/-0 points) for micro-minis and 5.8% (+0.1%) total domestic market share.
III. Exports
For six consecutive months since August 2005, exports have exceeded the figures from same period last year and January 2006 exports were up +33.6% over the same month last year. The greatly improved results reflect the increased volumes of new generation models such as the Mazda5, MX-5, and MPV in addition to the negative impact of the Ujina No. 1 plant fire in 2004 on the figures for January 2005. The Mazda5, MX-5, and MPV were major contributors to the increase in exports to North America, reaching 18,357 units (an increase of 47.0% compared to January 2005). Europe-bound exports increased to 23,588 units (up 46.6% year-on-year) thanks to increased volumes of the Mazda5 and MX-5 models.
IV. Overseas Production
Overseas production volumes increased for the first time in two months since November 2005 (+30.6%) due to increased output volume of Mazda6 and Premacy models bound for China. Reflecting steady sales, China-bound output volume reached 12,074 units (up 154.7%). Meanwhile, output volume of Mazda6 units bound for the US decreased to 7,800 units (-2.5% compared to January 2005). |
