Enhanced Mazda Bongo Van and Truck Models Certified as 'Good-Low Emission Vehicle'

- Boasting broader model lineup, all Bongo models have been upgraded to meet present noise and exhaust emission standards and offer enhanced standard equipment including driver's seat airbag -

Mazda Motor Corporation today announces the upgraded Bongo Van and Truck models, which go on sale from today at Mazda, Mazda Anfini, and Mazda Autozam dealerships throughout Japan.


Mazda Bongo Van GL-Super


All Bongo Van and Truck models comply with the latest regulatory automobile noise level (2001). The gasoline powered models are certified as the G-LEV (Good-Low Emission Vehicle).*1 Mazda will submit application to designate the Bongo Van and Truck models as low-emission vehicles in seven prefectures and cities in the Tokyo metropolitan area*2 and in six prefectures and cities in the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe area.*3

The DX, the flagship Bongo Van grade, has changed popular optional equipment such as power windows and the remote control passenger side-view mirror to standard equipment to further enhance comfort. All Bongo Van and Truck models produced from October 1 will feature the driver airbag as standard equipment. (Additional 30,000 yen)

The total monthly sales target for the Van and Truck models is 1,000 units.

Features of the new Bongo Van and Truck models
1. The new Bongo Van and Truck models powered by 1.8-liter gasoline engines (F8-E) meet the Japanese emission standards and have the G-LEV rating certified from the Ministry of Land and Infrastructure due to their 25% reduction in exhaust emissions from the regulatory level for 2000.

2. Mazda will submit application to designate the Bongo Van and Truck models as low-emission vehicles in the Tokyo metropolitan*2 and Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe areas*3 as the vehicles have the G-LEV rating.

3. Mazda has introduced new gasoline powered Bongo Van and Truck models. (For new models, refer to the following table.)

4. The DX, the main Bongo Van grade, features the "Easy Pack" as standard equipment. The "Easy Pack" offers power windows, a central door locking system, a remote control passenger side-view mirror, and tilt steering.

5. The ashtray and fuel warning lights are standard on all Bongo Van and Truck models.

6. Mazda has enhanced the Bongo refrigeration truck. The gasoline engine models offered a cab chassis that can be equipped with 2 compressors for refrigeration. The diesel-powered models offer a cab chassis that is equipped with a high capacity alternator (80A).

7. The driver airbag is a standard equipment on all Van and Truck models produced from October 1.

*1 G-LEV (Good-Low Emission Vehicle)
This is a rating for vehicles that have reduced the hydrocarbon, nitrogen oxides, and other emissions in their exhaust by 25% from the 2000 regulatory levels. Vehicles with 50% reductions are awarded the E-LEV (Excellent-Low Emission Vehicle) rating and those with 75% reductions are awarded the U-LEV (Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle) rating.
*2 Low-emission vehicles designated by seven prefectures and cities
These are vehicles designated under the Low-Emission Vehicle Designation Program in the Tokyo metropolitan area that is implemented by Saitama, Chiba, and Kanagawa Prefectures and by Tokyo, Yokohama, Kawasaki, and Chiba Cities. These prefectures and cities have jointly established the "Low-Emission Vehicle Designation Program in Seven Prefectures and Cities" to promote the widespread use of environment-friendly low-emission vehicles.
*3 Low-emission vehicles designated by six prefectures and cities
These are vehicles designated under the Low-Emission Vehicle Designation Program that is implemented by six prefectures and cities in the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe area: Kyoto, Osaka, and Hyogo Prefectures and Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe Cities. These prefectures and cities have established the "Council on Automobile Exhaust Emission Countermeasures in Six Prefectures and Cities in the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe Area" to promote vehicles whose exhaust emission levels are lower than the regulatory levels and to take measures against diesel powered vehicles.
