Mazda Motor Corporation has launched an upgrade of its commercial vehicle 'Scrum Truck' which goes on sale today at Mazda Autozam dealerships throughout Japan.
Scrum Truck is a semi-cab-type micromini van which offer customers excellent utilities, a comfortable drive, and a variety of functions to improve work efficiency and great maneuverability.
Mazda has raised the practicality once again with newly designed loading platform, enlargement of the floor space as well as lowering of the loading height. The loading platform is separated from the cabin making repair work easier.
In addition, Mazda has raised the comfort levels in the cabin as well as adding improved user-friendly features such as the enlargement of the glass area for the front and the rear windows, increased adjustment range for the driver's seat, and increased storage space which comes with the newly designed instrument panel.
Fuel efficiency for the 4WD was also improved and both 2WD and 4WD vehicles qualify under the Green Taxation plan.*

All Scrum Truck vehicles have been certified as 50% reduction: excellent-low emission level vehicle set in 2000.

| | 1. | The Green Taxation plan applies for vehicles which have accomplished the year 2000 low emission standard and qualify for a 1% reduction in vehicle acquisition tax for vehicles registered from 1st April 2001 to 30th September 2002, and 0.1% reduction for vehicles registered from 1st October 2002 to 28th February 2002. |

NB. Note that both tax privileges will not be applied at the same time.
The total monthly sales target of the Scrum Truck is 800 units.
Scrum Truck 'KC' 2WD
Major changes to the Scrum truck are as follows:
1. Expansion of the loading platform to improve user-friendliness

The length from the front panel of the platform to the rear gate has been extended to 2030mm. |

Loading height is lowered from 660mm to 640mm to increase work efficiency. In addition, the loading height for some models has been lowered to 605mm. |

Separate loading platform and cabin improves each of repair work and reduces costs. |

Loading ramp at the rear is set as standard equipment for all vehicles. |
2. Improvement of cabin amenities and user-friendliness

Alteration of steering angle and the seat position to improve driving comfort. Large head rest is as a standard equipment. |

Drivers seat slides up to 90mm (up from 75mm). |

The front window glass has been lowered to improve forward visibility. The rear window glass has been enlarged so that the atmosphere inside the cabin feels open and bright. |

Instrument panel is equipped with a large glove box, wide inside pockets, coin holder etc. |

On the driver seat side, a storage compartment has been added for pens and cards. |

Cup holders for two 500ml plastic bottles, console pocket and a tray (except KU truck) added for between the driver and front passenger seat. |

A new pocket inside the driver and front passenger doors, plus a water bottle holder on the driver's side (except KU truck). |
3. 4WD vehicles also qualify under the Green Taxation plan

An improvement has been made to the engine by making changes to the output characteristics at low to mid-range speed. An improvement to the fuel efficiency of the 4WD vehicles means that not only 2WD but also 4WD vehicles qualify under the Green Taxation plan. (All models already certified as excellent-low emission vehicle, except for the special WA dump truck which have attained 2002 emission gas level only.) |
