Mazda Motor Corporation announces a new Scrum series of micromini vehicles featuring an all-aluminum DOHC engine and a host of other improvements. The new Scrum series goes on sale today at Mazda Autozam dealerships throughout Japan.
The Scrum series is available in station wagon, commercial van, and commercial truck versions. All offer superb flexibility, a compact space-saving design, and easy handling: functions designed to make work more efficient and provide excellent maneuverability.
All models have an all-aluminum DOHC engine with high performance and low fuel consumption. The van and truck models meet the 2002 emissions standards for commercial/micromini vehicles and qualify for the "excellent low-emissions" classification set by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation, resulting in a reduction in vehicle acquisition tax.*
The new Scrum series meets a wide range of user requirements. The station wagon model features an instrument panel mounted four-speed automatic transmission and a stylish looking low-roof design. The KU Special has been added as a special specification truck model and is being offered in both standard and agricultural equipment versions. These various line-ups meet the needs of a wide-range of customers.
Monthly sales of the entire Scrum are expected to be 800 units.

All van and trucks qualify for the early acquisition exception of low emission standard vehicle. This results in a 1% reduction of the vehicle acquisition tax if delivered on or before September 30, 2002 and 0.1% for deliveries between October 1, 2002 and February 28, 2003. In addition, all van models and two-wheel-drive truck models qualify for the low fuel consumption vehicle exemption (for vehicles meeting low-emissions standards as well as fuel economy standards for 2022). This exemption provides a 9,000 yen reduction of the vehicle acquisition tax in the case of delivery on or before March 31, 2002. (Note that the above two tax exemptions do not apply together.) |

A modified instrument panel design and shape in all models, combined with a charcoal gray interior, providing a sporty feel. An additional center console and rear cup holders make the interior more functional. The seat configuration and the seat and door trims have been updated for increased comfort. |
